An Open Door to Those in Need
The New London Homeless Hospitality Center (NLHHC) is a place of safety and community for adults experiencing homelessness and housing insecurity in southeastern Connecticut.
Founded in 2006, NLHHC collaborates with dozens of public and private programs and agencies to address the systemic causes of homelessness and impoverishment.
Whether it's a warm place to sleep, help finding permanent housing, employment coaching, or support through life's toughest challenges, we walk alongside our guests every step of the way.
With the right resources and support, we can work towards ending homelessness in our communities. Let's come together and make a difference for good.

Action Began with Tragedy
NLHHC's origin can be traced to 2006, when an unhoused man named Bill Walsh died in the woods one week after New London's winter shelter closed. Another man, Danny Worobel, died under similar circumstances soon afterward.
Emmett Jarrett, a peace activist who, alongside Anne Scheibner, co-founded St. Francis House, an international Christian community in New London, convened a task force. Their mission was to find ways to support those seeking a way out of homelessness and to make these services a reality.
Emmett's vision of radical hospitality is at the heart of NLHHC's mission to this day.

Let us resolve today, in his memory, to make our city a 'city on a hill,' to which everyone can look for inspiration, to make our country 'a light to the nations,' that cares for its neediest citizens.
Let us get up tomorrow morning and start to work together to create a homeless hospitality center in New London that will be a model for the rest of our region and our nation.
