Meet Bill

Army Reserve veteran and lifelong local resident, Bill, needed emergency shelter.

 

Issues associated with a serious car accident, along with a long-term battle with alcohol, made it impossible for Bill to work and maintain a home of his own. Bill lived with his mother for several years, but after her death, he struggled to remain independent.

 

The Center provided Bill with emergency housing for two months and then placed Bill at Project Home, a multi-family home for veterans. Project Home, funded by the Veterans Administration and managed by HHC, offers independent, below-market housing.

 

Bill is flourishing. He shares a spotless apartment with another veteran and works as the House Manager. His paying job is to make sure that the home is well cared for, and the housemates work together to remain successful.

 

Bill is sober, saving to buy a car, and looking forward to taking on more responsibilities. He is accomplishing things, helping others, and being a good neighbor.
